First Camping Trip

The kids first camping trip was a blast! We decided to only go for one night and only 30 minutes from home just in case it went very badly and we needed to ditch partway through the night. Thankfully, this was not the case, and we are calling this first trip a success!

When we first arrived we set up the tent. Trying to set up a tent with a toddler and a baby is interesting. Luckily, parents of young children learn the concept of creative distraction pretty quickly. The bumbo worked wonders for SQ while Haden we handed some tent stakes and told to "hammer them in"- this spared us several minutes!

At some point we decided to head down to the beach. I asked Kellen if he was ready and he responded "No! were gettin' sticks." Apparently "gettin' sticks" is a right of passage for boys when camping (at least this is what I gather). When they had decided upon their sticks we took a short walk down to the beach, where Kellen proceeded to use his stick to whack bushes as we walked. Haden then, ever so carefully and strategically, whacked every single same bush with his stick. It was very entertaining to watch, to say the least! I just kept my mouth shut and assumed it was a primal guy thing- you know...carving out trails and marking their territory and all (thankfully the human way, not the canine way). On our way back I attempted to find a new stick for H but was told that my suggestion was "just a pile of twigs." Alas, I will keep the stick finding and other such manly adventures to the boys.

It was an amazing day and Haden even joined me in swimming in the Hood Canal! It was pretty fun once you get used to the disgusting seaweed and ice cold water! Time to get these kids in swim lessons, I'd say!

Happy to have these adventures with our kiddos and looking forward to so many more to come!

Our most mellow and peaceful girl, enjoying the great outdoors.
This is Haden's "cheese" face. Surprised he actually looked at me when saying it!
"Of course I want a hot dog, mom! What kind of question is that?!"

I give up on cleanliness for the next 18 years.

"I'm so done with your camera, Mom!"
