Dear Haden,
Lately.
Lately, when I walk into your room in the morning, you don't want to get up. You say "I'm tired, mama!" or if you're hungry you ask for dinner (no matter what time of day it is). If I enter to fast, you say "You scared me!" and sometimes you pretend there are monsters in your closet. You love monsters, by the way. Mike, Sully...the cookie monster. You like to pretend you are afraid of them, by screaming at the top of your lungs and yelling "MONKERS!" but I know you're not because you always follow it by a laugh. You like to make people laugh, just like your daddy. You're so silly and goofy sometimes and I love every new thing you come up with! I love when I ask you to do something and you say "Okay!" Sometimes I have to interrupt your language to other people. Sometimes you tack on gibberish to words that didn't really need it. But that's ok, because it makes me laugh.
Lately, you've been noticing when things are dirty. Your hands, the floor, your toys. You say "Ew, dirty, mama" and make me clean it up. You ask to wash your hands a lot actually. You ask me to "turn the water on" all the time- either outside or in the sink.
You can be a stinker too. When I pick you up you often say "Let go of me!" You love, much to our dismay, the word "no" and "mine." Typical two year old stuff. We love you anyways. You've recently started putting your toys and sometimes even yourself into time out. I will ask you if you need a time out and sometimes you just say "yup!" and go to the laundry room (where we do our time outs). This is a rare occurance, however :).
Your new favorite food right now is "burgers" which you've had a lot of, since it's summer and we like to barbeque. Your new favorite person is Uncle Tal, who you like to follow around whenever he comes over.
Lately, you like to rawr like a dinosaur so loud, you often scare you're little sister. You're learning to say "sorry" when you hurt or scare someone, and thankfully you're getting better about telling sissy sorry. You still call her DD. You love helping me get her from her crib. Coincidentally, you also love helping me put her to bed...which she doesn't like much. It's hard to get her to sleep when you are in the room but somehow we usually manage.
When you get tired, one of your eyes blinks slower than the other. You get super cranky and always want your binky, so sometimes you sneak it out of your crib. You always get caught but you don't ever stop trying. That's some determination. :)
You are a busy boy and you don't really ever stop. You still love your crib though, it's your safe and comfy space. When we lay you down at night, we always say our prayers and if you are really ready for "nighnigh" you say "bye mama" as I leave the room. It melts my heart.
I know you don't understand it yet, Haden, but I love you more than I can express. You're challenging and a stinker sometimes, but it's all worth it. You bring me so much joy. When I imagine you grown, I get teary eyed, but know I will be so proud to have raised such a wonderful man. For now I pray God gives me the strength to give you the love, patience, and attention you need each day.
